At LAHC, we believe in investing in young people today to create stronger communities in Southeastern Michigan tomorrow.
We are proud to offer the Youth Leadership Bridge to College Program (YLBTCP)—a free, innovative youth leadership program designed to give high school students the skills they need for college, career, and life success.
This youth program is not just about getting kids into college; it’s about preparing them to lead, serve, and succeed in everything they do.
Through leadership training, career readiness, and community involvement, LAHC is helping build the next generation of changemakers.
What is a youth leadership program?
A youth leadership program equips young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to grow as leaders, pursue higher education, and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
These programs focus on critical skills like:
- Leadership development
- College preparation and academic support
- Financial literacy and career readiness
- Personal growth and mentorship
- Service learning and community engagement
At LAHC, our Youth Leadership Bridge to College Program combines these core elements with hands-on experiences that help students break barriers, unlock opportunities, and build a brighter future.
The goal is simple: to remove barriers that keep students from pursuing higher education and achieving their dreams. At LAHC, our Youth Leadership Bridge to College Program offers all these supports and more.
We focus not only on academics but also on leadership and life skills—because we know real success comes from a combination of education, character, and confidence.

The importance of college access and leadership development
Access to higher education changes lives and families for the better.
When young people have the chance to attend college, trade schools, or advanced training programs, they gain:
- Better career opportunities
- Higher earning potential
- Stronger critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Broader networks and life experiences
- The ability to contribute more deeply to their communities
Unfortunately, not all students have the same access to information or support regarding higher education.
Many students, especially first-generation college students or those from minority backgrounds, face challenges like financial barriers, lack of mentorship, and confusion about the college application process.
This is why programs like LAHC’s Youth Leadership Bridge to College Program are so important. By providing education, support, and real-world skills, we help level the playing field and open doors that might otherwise stay closed.
Research from organizations like Reality Changers shows that students in a college access program are much more likely to apply to college, be accepted, and graduate.
These programs don’t just help individuals—they strengthen families, communities, and our entire future.
How you can support LAHC’s Youth Leadership Program

- Donate: Every dollar you give supports program materials, events, transportation, and other vital resources that make this work possible.
- Spread the word: Tell friends, family, and colleagues about LAHC and our mission to empower youth.
- Partner with us: Are you part of a company, school, or community group? Let’s work together to give students even more opportunities.
