Family Fitness Fun

StoryWalk
StoryWalk® is a fun and interactive way to promote literacy, physical activity, and family engagement by displaying pages of a children’s book along a walking path. As families move from page to page, they read the story while staying active. LAHC’s StoryWalks feature culturally relevant books and are hosted in schools, parks, and community spaces throughout the year.
During the summer months (June–September), new stories are rotated monthly at both the Henry Ford Centennial Library and the Dearborn Historical Museum, providing ongoing opportunities for families to explore fresh titles. Additionally, StoryWalk boards are available to loan, just like library books, for use at community events, school functions, and other public gatherings.
Family Cook-Alongs
Family Cook-Alongs are engaging, hands-on events where families come together to cook, learn, and enjoy a healthy meal. Hosted at schools and at LAHC’s Community Kitchen, these sessions provide all the ingredients and supplies needed for families to prepare a nutritious recipe side-by-side. Students have the opportunity to showcase what they’ve learned in our direct education classes, while parents and caregivers gain practical tips on healthy cooking and eating. The cook-alongs strengthen family bonds, reinforce nutrition education at home, and create a fun, supportive space for building lifelong healthy habits.
