Celebrating Compassion: How the Maternal Health Navigator Program Is Changing Lives

maternal health programs Wayne County

When a mother feels supported, a community grows stronger. This belief guides every aspect of LAHC’s Maternal & Infant Health (MIH) initiatives—and this fall, the launch of the Maternal Health Navigator Program marks an inspiring milestone in that mission.

With a holistic model centered on education, advocacy, and connection, the new program provides one-on-one guidance for expectant and new mothers across Wayne County.

Through personalized support, hybrid workshops, and strong community partnerships, LAHC is helping families build healthier beginnings—together.

A New Chapter in Maternal Support in Wayne County

In September, LAHC officially launched its Maternal Health Navigator Program, expanding its reach to expectant and new mothers in need of compassionate, individualized care.

The program connects each mother with a dedicated Maternal Health Navigator who offers ongoing guidance throughout pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and early parenting

Navigators help families:

  • Access prenatal and postpartum healthcare
  • Connect with community and social resources
  • Navigate healthcare systems confidently
  • Build supportive networks with other mothers

By focusing on both emotional and practical needs, the program ensures that no mother feels alone during her journey.

Hybrid Mom Care Connect Workshops: Flexibility that Fits Families

One of the most notable achievements this fall is the Mom Care Connect Workshop Series, which began on September 10, 2025. After gathering feedback from participating mothers, LAHC transformed the program into a hybrid model—allowing women to attend in person or virtually.

This flexible approach has already made a meaningful difference. The second session, held on September 24, saw stronger participation.

Making Care Accessible

By removing barriers such as transportation and childcare, LAHC has made it easier for more families to access vital information on maternal health, nutrition, and self-care.

Through hybrid sessions, LAHC continues to adapt to the needs of modern families—proving that flexibility can be just as powerful as compassion.

Building Partnerships and Expanding Reach

The Maternal Health Navigator Program doesn’t stand alone—it thrives through collaboration.

This fall, LAHC promoted its maternal health services at Western Family Health Centers in Dearborn and Inkster, as well as other community partners, providers, and mosques.

These efforts are already paying off, as the organization celebrated welcoming its first maternal navigator clients in September.

In addition, LAHC’s partnership with the Starfish Nurse Family Partnership led to a generous donation of 10 car seats and 10 Pack ’n Plays, which will be distributed to eligible mothers through workshops and the Navigator program.

Such collaborations underscore LAHC’s belief that community health grows stronger when organizations unite to serve families with care and respect.

Strengthening Safe Sleep and Infant Wellness

Beyond direct support, the LAHC team continues to promote safe sleep practices and infant health education across Wayne County.

In late September, team members attended Wayne County Safe Sleep Matters Popup Events, received updated training, and connected with families to share resources.

These events emphasize one of LAHC’s most important goals—helping families create safe, nurturing environments for newborns and infants.

Why Maternal Health Matters

Consistent prenatal and postpartum support leads to better health outcomes for both mothers and babies. Programs like LAHC’s combine education with emotional connection, addressing the whole person rather than just the pregnancy.

By offering culturally sensitive care, flexible workshops, and trusted partnerships, LAHC’s Maternal Health Navigator Program is creating a ripple effect of empowerment that extends far beyond childbirth.

Continuing the Infant and Maternal Health Journey Together

As LAHC prepares for the next series of workshops and community events, the vision remains clear—to create a world where every mother has the support, confidence, and care she deserves.

Whether through hybrid learning, navigator guidance, or peer connection, LAHC’s maternal initiatives continue to honor the organization’s mission of empowering communities, strengthening families, and building healthier futures across Wayne County.
