Job Position: Nutrition Educator
Full-Time: $30,000-$35,000 annually + Benefits

The Nutrition Educator position serves to empower children and families using evidence-based strategies to achieve healthy lives and reduce health disparities. Specific strategies include promoting healthy lifestyles and educating youth and families about kitchen basics, food safety and recipe execution. Using existing approved teaching materials and curricula, the culinary educator is responsible for shopping, planning and implementing programming, including cooking demonstrations, in educational and community settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation of health education workshops; includes both children and adults
  • Assist Program Manager in preparing cooking lesson plans that conform to program guidelines, are age appropriate, and based on the needs of the participants
  • Lead group cooking demonstrations with an emphasis on nutrition and food preparation techniques
  • Prepare food items according to designated recipes and quality standards
  • Maintain cleanliness and comply with food sanitation standards at all times
  • Ensure knowledge of menu and all food products
  • Budget and shop for recipe ingredients
  • Practice correct food handling and food storage procedures according to federal, state, local and company regulations
  • Administer program assessment tools to evaluate participants’ needs and progress

Education and Training Requirements: 

  • Culinary Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • ServSafe Certified Preferred
  • Approximately 1+ year of related professional experience
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Cultural competency is a must
  • Solid organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverables and expectations
  • Prior group facilitation is a plus
  • Bilingual is desirable (Arabic)
  • Must have transportation and a valid driver license
  • Daily travel to multiple sites to provide services to students, teachers and parents; all program sites serviced are located in Wayne County
